Ford GT90 Concept Car

The one-off GT90 Concept Car, labeled immediately as "the world's mightiest supercar" by Ford Motor Company on December 6, 1994, was the spiritual successor to the Ford GT40, the product of a colossal feud in the early 1960s between the Blue Oval from Dearborn and the Prancing Horse of Northern Italy. The GT90 draws from the design cues of its heritage and pays homage to the famed Le Mans-winning Ford GT40s of the 1960s, which were created after the failed attempt by Ford to buy out Ferrari.
At a development cost in the neighborhood of $3 million, the GT90 was certainly worthy of pulling styling cues from the original Ford GTs, and although it was never meant for production, it was built according to a Ford press release as a "test bed for technology, engineering and design concepts, and driver-oriented features that eventually may be used in Ford production vehicles."

Officially unveiled to the public in January 1995 at the Detroit Auto Show, the GT90 is finished in bright white with a bright blue and carbon fiber interior. It features a mid engine quad-turbocharged V12 that produces an estimated 720 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque. As a result, it had a claimed top speed of 253 mph, which even by today's standards would make it one of the fastest production cars in the world – faster even than a McLaren F1, which was widely considered the world's preeminent supercar at the time.

McLaren release final MP4-12C technical specifications

McLaren have amended the published technical specifications of their latest model, the McLaren MP4-12C, prior to its general release. Driving reviews are to be published all over the automotive world tomorrow, when the February 14th embargo lifts, so we are publishing their latest specifications for you here.


At 4507 mm in overall length, the McLaren MP4-12C is slightly longer than the Bugatti Veyron (4462 mm) and slightly shorter than its more likely competitor, the Ferrari 458 Italia (4527 mm). Its wheelbase measurement also falls neatly between the two at 2670 mm (2710 mm and 2650 mm for the Veyron and 458 Italia, respectively). With a kerb weight of 1434 kg however, it is lighter than both.

The dry-sumped engine is mounted longitudinally amidships. This twin turbocharged, all-aluminium engine is very oversquare, as the newly-released bore and stroke figures (93.0 mm and 69.9 mm respectively) show. The 32 valve twin cam V8 engine has a resultant swept capacity of 3799cc. Together with those two turbos, it musters peak power of 600 PS (592 bhp, 441 kW) at 7000 rpm and 600 Nm (443 ft.lb, 61.2 kgm) of torque between 3000 and 7000 rpm. All this is enough to propel the car to 100 km/h (62 mph) from rest at a claimed 3.3 seconds, on through the quarter mile at 10.9 seconds at a trap speed of 216 km/h (134 mph), and powers through the kilometre in just 19.6 seconds, at which time it is claimed to be travelling at 272 km/h (169 mph). Despite the tremendous performance, the CO2 emissions are remarkably low at 279 g/km.

The transmission is a seven speed sequential manual, and the power is transmitted to the 20 inch rear wheels which are shod with 305/30 Pirelli P-Zero tyres. The 19 inch front wheels are given slightly smaller rubber with 235/35 Pirelli P-Zero tyres. Stopping power is provided (as standard) by cast iron ventilated discs, 370 mm diameter in the front and 350 mm in the rear.
